Nokia has confirmed that it will do huge job cuts in Europe. 1000 employees from the Nokia Finnish Salo plant will be laid off. The main reason about this would be Nokia's eagerness to be on top again.
Some employees will have to go as early as June while others will stay by the end of the year. A smooth transition.
Those who remain at Salo will focus on installing and testing applications and tweaking models for European Nokia models. This is a move to penetrate Asian market, especially now that android and iOS devices are leading the game.

Love is really in the air this Love Month. A guy who wants to ask the big question would usually buy a diamond ring, takes his girlfriend to a romantic place, kneels, and pops out that big question.
But that is too typical for a guy named Patrick Long. On Valentine's day, he
proposed to his girlfriend, Jenny
Longman, by using a look-alike of
Wordament – a word puzzle game
for Windows Phone that the girl's favourite.
In Wordament, words are hidden
inside of a 4 by 4 letter grid, and the
player's goal is to find as many of
them as possible. And with the help of
a software tool called Microsoft
Expression Blend, Pattrick coded his look-alike from scratch making it work
similarly to the real game. As you
might expect, he programmed it so
that the sentence hidden in the
puzzle reads "Will you marry me?"
when solved.
This unordinary proposal ended with the sweetest YES!

We all know that the 43,000 year-old Tasmanian plant is the oldest living thing in the world but it has now been broked by a newly discovered giant patches of seagrass in the Mediterranean sea called Neptune Grass
The oldest living thing was discovered by Australian Scientists, the Giant Patches of seagrass in the
Mediterranean sea which is believed to be 200,000-year-old. As reported by the Huffington Post,
scientists was able to determine the age of the oldest living thing by a
process called "DNA sequencing," which covered 40 different sites over a 2,000 mile range from Cyprus to Spain.
Scientifically named Posidonia oceanica or commonly known as
Mediterranean tapeweed or Neptune Grass, the patches of seagrass was between 12,000 and
200,000 years old and was most likely to be at least 100,000 years old and is at 6000 tons.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone! May Love and Peace be in our hearts.

China launched a super-rapid test train over the weekend which is capable of travelling 500 kilometers per hour, state media said on Monday, as the country moves ahead with its railway ambitions despite serious problems on its high-speed network.
The train, made by a subsidiary of CSR Corp Ltd, China's largest train maker, is designed to resemble an ancient Chinese sword, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
It "will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations," it quoted train expert Shen Zhiyun as saying.
But future Chinese trains will not necessarily run at such high speeds, CSR chairman Zhao Xiaogang told the Beijing Morning News.
"We aims to ensure the safety of trains operation," he said.
China's railway industry has had a tough year, highlighted by a collision between two high-speed trains in July which killed at least 40 people. Construction of new high-speed trains in China has since been a near halt.
In February, the railways minister, Liu Zhijun, a key figure behind the boom in the sector, was dismissed over corruption charges that have not yet been tried in court.
TOKYO (AP) — The world's oldest dog according to Guinness World Records has died in Japan at the age of 26 years and eight months.
Owner Yumiko Shinohara told reporters at her home in Sakura, a city outside Tokyo, that Pusuke, a fluffy tan Shiba mix, died Monday after suddenly falling ill and refusing to eat.
Shinohara told TV network FNN that she "would just like to thank him for staying alive so long." The report said Pusuke's life span would have been the equivalent of about 125 years for a human.
According to Guinness, the dog was born April 1, 1985. Pusuke was recognized as the world's oldest living dog last December. The Guinness record for canine longevity is 29 years, set by Bluey, an Australian cattle dog who died in 1939.
The Computer History Museum (CHM) will honor Steve Jobs in a virtual exhibit including a rare presentation by the former iCEO. The exhibit is called “From the garage to the world’s most valuable company” and tracks Apple from its beginning to its recent rise to the top.
The exhibit puts its collection of Apple-related material in the limelight with photos of the Apple I, an original Homebrew Computer Club newsletter and early pictures of Jobs in highschool.
"For some crazy reason in the universe, two people from Los Altos and Cupertino, California managed to want something that just so happened to be what about a million other people wanted," CHM’s curator Dag Spicer says.
What’s most interesting probably though is the rare video footage in which Jobs speak about how much luck had to do with the founding of Apple computers. Hit the source link below to tour the virtual exhibit.

German researchers armed with smoking candles have come up with a cheap and easy way to coat surfaces so that oil droplets bounce or roll right off. The advance could eventually lead to eyeglass coatings and tablet computer screens that can evade the mark of even the greasiest fingerprints.
Making surfaces able to repel fluids—whether water- or oil-based—is also important for industrial and biomedical applications. But it's harder to make a surface that repels oil or organic solvents as opposed to water because oil has a far lower surface tension than water.
What's required is a very specific type of surface roughness—akin to the branches of a budding tree—that achieves oil-repellency. This has been understood for some time, but it has been difficult to fabricate such a texture. Earlier work at MIT and elsewhere involved complex nanolithographic techniques.

Grease gone: A five-micrometer drop of a solvent bounces off a surface coated with the new material. Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Hans-Jurgen Butt |
Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, in a paper published today in the journal Science, say they've come up with a simpler way, using a combination of candle soot and silica baked at just the right temperature.
Neelesh Patankar, a mechanical engineer at Northwestern University, says the work is an important step toward finding a commercially viable way to make such materials. "It has been known what surface chemistry as well as geometries would work" to repel oils, he says. "This work shows a good way to make such coatings with the right kind of practically relevant properties."

The total number of mobile applications is close to reaching a millionacross the four biggest platforms: iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, according to a report by analytical company Mobilewalla. It doesn’t take into account Symbian applications from the Nokia Ovi Store, which would have tipped the number over a million.
Obviously, iOS and the App Store are still the dominant players with a total of the whopping 590,138 applications available. This makes up 60% of all apps across the four biggest platforms with Android only a distant runner-up with its 320,315 apps, nearly half those on iOS.
Still, the rest in the ranking are way behind Android and iOS with only a marginal 4.42% for the BlackBerry App World and 3.6% for the Windows Phone Marketplace. We all know numbers aren’t everything - ultimately, it all comes down to a connection between numbers and quality. The trend however is clear that mobile apps are growing faster since competition between app stores kicked off around 2008.

Years after their discovery, the super-heavy elements 114 and 116 have finally been christened by their Russian and American discoverers. The elements have been named flerovium and livermoreium, also known as Fl and Lv. CREDIT: Lawrence Livermore National Labs
Chemistry's periodic table can now welcome livermorium and flerovium, two newly named elements, which were announced Thursday (Dec. 1) by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. The new names will undergo a five-month public comment period before the official paperwork gets processed and they show up on the table.
Three other new elements just recently finished this process, filling in the 110, 111 and 112 spots.
The periodic table of elements just got a bit heftier today (Nov. 4), as the names of three new elements were approved by the General Assembly of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics.
Elements 110, 111 and 112 have been named darmstadtium (Ds), roentgenium (Rg) and copernicium (Cn).
All five of these elements are so large and unstable they can be made only in the lab, and they fall apart into other elements very quickly. Not much is known about these elements, since they aren't stable enough to do experiments on and are not found in nature. They are called "super heavy," or Transuranium, elements.
The newly named elements fit in the 114 and 116 spots, down in the lower-right corner of the periodic table, and were officially accepted to the periodic table back in June. They originally were synthesized more than 10 years ago, after which repeat experiments led to their confirmation.

| Contract between Sony and Ericsson |
Goodbye Sony Ericsson, long live Sony. Ericsson will have until "mid 2012" to clear its things from the spare room before the electronics giant begins a new solo venture. The revitalized enterprise will leverage its parent company's brand strength, R&D and content (since it owns a massive chunk of the entertainment industry) and in comments made to Times of India, company Vice President Kristian Tear said there would be a "fierce" advertising push to restore the company's reputation as a major player worldwide -- before taking a Pilates class to try and fit back into its bachelor pad.
